Walks

This part of the site contains the information which formed the topic of our original website but still fits quite well as walking holidays can contribute to a low carbon lifestyle.

Walking seems self-evidently a low carbon leisure activity, as long as it doesn't require high carbon modes of transport to get to and from the walk itself. UK main-line trains and coaches have substantially better carbon footprints than most cars, unless car occupancy is greater than two people. Also, there is the CO2 production relating to hotel stays and restaurant meals.  Some hotels and B&Bs are concerned to increase their sustainability and list this on their websites.

There are many websites about walking, especially those describing national trails such as the Thames Path and the South West Coast Path. Our notes on walks we have done include our own experience of using public transport to and from start and finish points.  Longer trails are broken into manageable stages (since we are getting quite old) which mainly involve no more than 4 or 5 hours walking each day, with suggested possible places to stay overnight (some of which pride themselves on their green credentials).

We also have some local walks (close to west London) which are described in the links below
